DontCareBear
May 24, 2008
Update 02/06/2008: Thanks to everyone for rating my design on Springleap – I’m happy to announce that I’ve won a runner’s up prize for DontCareBear. Awesome! You can buy your very own print of my tee at www.springleap.com

I did this design for a monthly t-shirt design competition on www.springleap.com and figured it also works for this week’s Illustration Friday topic “worry”, though it can be seen as more anti-topic, but hey. All in all, it’s provided a great reason for me to practice my wacom drawing skills; and having a winning design would definitely boost my chances of getting my name out there in the illustration/design world… the prizes would be nice to have too
So, if you like my design, please go to www.springleap.com and register to vote/rate my designs. I’d really appreciate it.
Here’s a quick link to my design: http://www.springleap.com/designs/view/dont-care-bear/page:1
And another entry of mine called “Super Emo Bro”: http://www.springleap.com/designs/view/super-emo-bro
Thanks for your support!
Pet Peeve
March 26, 2008

I recently got the most wonderful thing as a joint birthday present from myself and all my family… a Wacom Intuos3 pen tablet!!! Yay! I’ve been playing with it as much as I possibly can and am already getting the feeling of “how did I ever manage without it?” – Yes, it’s that wonderful. So what better way to test/use my new toy than doing something for illustration friday. This week’s theme is pet peeve – I can’t say it’s my favourite, but hey; at first I wasn’t sure what to draw, so then I thought “what annoys me more than anything else in the whole world?” – the first thing that popped into my mind was cockroaches. Yugg, evil little things, who ever thought I’d want to draw one… but there it is.
Captain
August 21, 2007

So this is my take on this week’s illustration friday topic “Captain”. Don’t really get around to doing the illustrations every week, but I was feeling inspired last night for some reason. I wanted to go for something very dark and rough with sharp contrasts to try and capture the atmosphere of impending battle. Also thought the little bit of red in the flag would be a nice touch – it’s all symbolic and stuff – I’ll let you come up with your own interpretation on that one. Please leave your comments.
Poem
July 25, 2007

So yeah, it’s just a few months later… and I’ve updated my blog (yay me).
I figured I should stop being lazy and just do something creative like I should be doing. Unfortunately I chose to do this while at work (tisk tisk), which means that I am still, in fact, lazy. Oh well. Actually I wrote the poem last night, so I’m only half bad. I was feeling sorry for myself at the time, which strangely enough seems to put me in a more creative mood – in a literary sense. I’m pretty sure though that some of the lines from my poem can be found in certain songs that I listen to – just a sneaking suspicion; and I assure you it was totally unintentional… “Every artist is a cannibal every poet is a thief” (I think that’s from The Fly, by U2) so true.
Please feel free to comment/critique.
For those who find the poem too hard to read in the pic – here it is:
Inner mind darker still
Thoughts define shape heart’s will
Anguished tears sting tired eyes
My faults and failures I despise
Your truth it burns me, light reveals
How wrong I am, how far from You
What’s the story? Love conceals?
Or am I really something new?
Why does it have to be so hard?
Twisting words, interpretations, meanings
Or is it all just meaningless?
But I know the truth
that’s why I can’t evade
No giving in, doubt, fear
I know what You’d say
He who has an ear, let him hear…
I know the way
I can’t deny You
Inner mind deeper still
Thoughts renewed shape heart’s will
Snap
April 5, 2007

This is my third attempt for Illustration Friday. The first one I linked to myspace (which you can only view if you’re a member – what a pain), the second one I finished too late, so, third time’s the charm?
The first thing that came to mind when thinking about the topic, Snap, was the child’s card game – fond memories – oh who am I kidding, it normally ended in a fight, but I did love the illustrations on the cards
This is unfortunately another rush job; but I’d love for you to leave your comments (same goes for my other illustrations).
I Spy
March 30, 2007

The more I look at this picture, the more I hate it… so I’m not really sure why I’m uploading it – but there you have it: my second submission for Illustration Friday. I was so excited about drawing this when I saw the topic “I Spy” but then never got around to doing it until late last night, when all I really felt like doing was vegging out in front of the TV after a hectic game of squash. It just hasn’t turned out the way I pictured it in my mind, I wanted to go for something far more simplistic and naive, but I’ve always struggled with that.
Anyways, your comments are much appreciated.
My First Ever Post
March 19, 2007
Hey there and welcome to my blog! This is my first ever post, so forgive me if it’s a little worse than boring, but I’m kinda excited about the whole idea so I don’t really care
I’m writing this blog & you’re not, so you will listen to every damn word I have to say!…. Haha, just kidding.
Hopefully I will have something more interesting to say later on, but for now you can check out my last submission to the Illustration Friday website. Unfortunately I linked it to my myspace page – which is incredibly dissappointing because you can’t view the pic unless you’re a logged in member (I only found this out afterwards and was unable to change the link, alas! So here it is, please leave your comments/critiques.
